FFA wins at substate competition

Mohawk Valley FFA members earn spot at state competition
As a result of their recent win at the substate level, Mohawk Valley FFA members have earned the chance to compete at the state FFA Convention this May.  

Nine members of the Mohawk Valley FFA chapter at Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville High School traveled to the South Lewis Central School District in Turin Saturday, March 29 to compete in the New York State FFA Central Region Substate Career Development Events. 

Students qualified to compete at the substate level by placing in the top seven at the district level competition in the beginning of March.   

OESJ students who participated included Laiken Whittredge, who competed in the Job Interview event, Casey Watson, who competed in the People in Agriculture event, and Stephanie Arndt, Kait Isaac, Ayrn Feagles, Liam Sammons, Laiken Whittredge, Zach Tinkler, Jeff Baker and Aiden Eggelston, who competed as a team in the Parliamentary Procedure event.  

The Parliamentary Procedure team placed first on Saturday, qualifying to compete against five other teams at the state level at the state FFA Convention May 8 to 10 in Medina. The Parliamentary Procedure competition required students to individually take a test comprised of 25 multiple choice questions and five research questions. After the test the students went go on to conduct a formal meeting in 10 minutes focused on a given motion, and then compiled a complete set of meeting minutes.
