OESJ launches after school program for middle and high school students
The high school and middle school in the Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Central School District has launched an academic afterschool program aimed at all students in grades 6-12.

The Beyond the Bell After School Program (BTB) will run two days each week until the end of the school year. The program will provide extra help for students in all subjects and will provide enrichment activities in areas such as technology, the arts and more.

“This is an after school program that provides not only extra help for students who may be struggling in a particular subject but it also provides opportunities for our top students who seek more challenge and enrichment,” OESJ High School Principal Ronald Smith said.

The program will be staffed by OESJ teachers and will run from 2:45 to 4:12 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Late bus transportation will be provided for students that participate in the program.

The program will feature activities, including tutoring and extra practice, targeted specifically to students in need of academic improvement. Enrichment activities, which will include guest speakers and other special opportunities, will focus on math, science, English, social studies, technology, career and job training and Arts education.

“The program will focus on the development of skills needed for the 21st century including life and career skills, learning and innovation skills and information, media and technology skills,” Middle School Principal Jeanine Kawryga said.

The new after school program is set to launch today, Thursday, Dec. 5, at both the high school and middle school buildings.
