The OESJ community and the general public are invited to a Memorial Day observance and parade on the OESJ Middle School campus in Oppenheim on Thursday, May 23.
The parade, which will feature the O-E Marching Band and K-6 students, will step off at 12:45 p.m. and circle the O-E campus. The American Legion will participate in the event and will provide a 21-gun salute.
After the parade, high school musicians will perform a concert for the community in the school’s gym.
Community members are invited to wear red, white and blue or other patriotic dress. Banners and flags are encouraged.
In the event of rain, the parade will be held in the school hallway.
The marching bands from Oppenheim-Ephratah and St. Johnsville will also participate in other Memorial Day parades during the holiday weekend.
The St. Johnsville Marching Band will perform in the Saratoga Memorial Day Parade on Thursday, May 23. The Saratoga parade steps off at 6:30 p.m.
Both bands will perform in the St. Johnsville Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27. The St. Johnsville parade steps off at 9:30 a.m.
The Oppenheim-Ephratah band will perform in the Gloversville Memorial Day Parade. The Gloversville parade begins at 10 a.m.
On June 8, both bands will perform in the Dolgeville Violet Festival Parade, which will begin at 10 a.m.
“Both Oppenheim-Ephratah and St. Johnsville have outstanding music programs that are a source of pride for the schools and the community,” Superintendent Laura Lawrence said. “We look forward to continuing that strong music tradition in the merged district with our bands and other performing groups combined under a single identity.”
