Students in 11th grade hold debates in ELA class

teacher talking to studentsStudents in Ms. Jewett’s 11th grade ELA classes spent the past week preparing for classroom debates on class selected topics including euthanasia/physician assisted suicide, gun control, and the effects of video game violence. Teams sharpened their research skills with Ms. Johnson in the library at the beginning of the week, discussed and practiced public speaking skills as the week went on with the actual debates taking place on Friday, 9/28. Spirited debates ensued! Audience members from other classes voted on the effectiveness of each team’s arguments and awarded the winners.
