State vaccination sites will be open to all residents ages 16 and older beginning on April 29

The state vaccination sites – Washington Avenue Armory and the former Lord and Taylor at Crossgates in Albany and  SUNY Polytechnic Institute Wildcat Field House in Utica – will be open to all residents ages 16 and older beginning on Thursday!

Here’s the article from the Albany Times Union:

The state’s mass-vaccination sites will allow all New Yorkers 16 and older to walk in without an appointment to receive a coronavirus vaccination beginning Thursday, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said.

The move is designed to combat vaccine hesitancy, and it reflects how the supply of the vaccines has outstripped demand, with hundreds of appointments available each day at many sites. Local and county sites may also open up to walk-ins, as New York City did last week.

“All the obstacles are removed. All the barriers are removed. Just show up and roll up your sleeve and the mass-vaccination sites have the capacity to handle you, OK?” the governor said during a news conference Tuesday at Binghamton University.

Acting on updated guidance from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Cuomo also said New Yorkers who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required to wear masks outside — something that many people already do. The announcement comes after the CDC had announced earlier in the day that it no longer recommended mask-wearing for vaccinated individuals outdoors, except in crowded areas.

The state’s COVID-19 numbers remain low, with 2.6 percent of test results coming back positive and 25 deaths reported in 24 hours. There were 3,184 people hospitalized and 728 people statewide in intensive care units on Tuesday, Cuomo said.
