School is closed until at least Friday, May 15; classes could resume on Monday, May 18

April 17, 2020

Dear OESJ families and Staff,

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced during his April 16 press briefing that New York State “Pause“ will continue through Friday, May 15 to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

As part of that order, schools throughout the state will remain closed during that period of time.  The governor could extend the closure again if he feels it is necessary to contain the virus.  If that order is not extended, school will begin on Monday, May 18, 2020.

During the extended closure our teachers will continue to provide continuity of instruction. Our teachers have been in contact with students and their families to provide instructional materials. Also, the district’s food service department will continue to provide meals for our students.

Again, I encourage families to work with their children and their teachers to complete their learning requirements so that they can receive credit for their courses.

We are grateful for your continued cooperation and dedication to our students and your children.  I know this is hard work-very hard work for everyone, especially throughout this extended period of school closures. Your patience and flexibility is very much appreciated during this challenging time.

Stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joseph L. Natale
Interim Superintendent
