OESJ CSD Families,
The district continues to understand the frustration and confusion brought about by yesterday’s mask mandate ruling. Today, we held numerous conversations with members of our concerned school community, state officials, and the New York State Education Department (NYSED). The OESJ CSD appreciates everyone’s understanding and cooperation.
This afternoon, a hearing was held in the New York State Appellate Court regarding the New York State Department of Health mask ruling. At 5 p.m., a New York Appellate Judge granted a stay in the state’s lawsuit over the COVID-19 face mask mandate, meaning it remains in place until at least January 28th, 2022, while the case is appealed. Therefore, the Department of Health statewide rule requiring the wearing of masks in school remains in effect. At this time, there is no change to the mask protocols we have been following.
We will continue to monitor these proceedings and if changes occur, we will make the appropriate adjustments to our reopening plan and communicate updates to our school community. We thank you for your understanding, patience, and for playing an important role in the safety and well-being of our school community.
Adam Heroth
OESJ CSD Superintendent
