Confirmed Positive COVID-19 Case at the Elementary School

Dear OESJ Students, Families, and Staff,

Today, Tuesday, May 11th, OESJ CSD administrators were informed that a member of the OESJ Elementary School has been laboratory confirmed positive for COVID-19.

Upon receiving the information, district officials immediately began to work with the County Health Department that the individual resides in to help officials identify anyone who may have been in close contact with these individuals. After working closely with the Public Health Department, it has been determined that there will be contact tracing conducted as a result of this positive case. The District and the Public Health Department are handling contact tracing and advising on any necessary quarantine. Please note that if you do not receive a call from the school nurse or the Health Department, you have not been identified as a close contact. At this time, it is not being recommended that we close the building, therefore, the elementary school will remain open for in-person instruction.

Again, this notification is part of our commitment to keeping you informed during these uncertain times. However, privacy laws restrict district officials from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. Therefore, we cannot identify by name anyone who has tested positive. The individual who tested positive is in isolation for the recommended time and will not return to the building until cleared by their Department of Health.

Moving forward, we will continue to work closely with our local Departments of Health, monitor the ever-changing situation, and we will follow their guidance on how to proceed. Please remain vigilant in conducting at-home screenings and maintain personal awareness of COVID symptoms for your children. Visit our website if you would like more information about our health and safety procedures. We remain committed to keeping our schools open while providing a safe learning environment for all of our students and staff. Please contact your child’s building principal directly if you have any questions or concerns.
