Confirmed Case of COVID-19 at the Jr/Sr High School

Dear OESJ Students, Families and Staff,

Over the weekend, OESJ CSD administrators were notified that a member of the OESJ Jr./Sr. High School community has been laboratory confirmed positive for COVID-19. This individual was last in the building on Friday, November 20th. As you are aware, no students in the District have been in the buildings since Friday, November 13th.

Upon receiving the information, district officials immediately began to work with the County Health Department that the individual resides in to help officials identify anyone who may have been in close contact with this individual. As with the previous cases, the Department of Health has determined that the individual was NOT in the building during the identified contagious period and it is unlikely there would be a need to quarantine other students or staff. After consultation with the Department of Health this weekend and due to the circumstances of this particular case, we are still planning on returning to our hybrid learning model with students in attendance tomorrow, Monday, November 30th.

Again, this notification is part of our commitment to keeping you informed during these uncertain times. However, privacy laws restrict district officials from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. Therefore, we cannot identify by name anyone who has tested positive. The individual who tested positive is in isolation for the recommended time and will not return to the building until cleared by their Department of Health.

Moving forward, we will continue to work closely with our local Departments of Health and we will follow their guidance on how to proceed. Please continue to conduct at-home screenings and maintain personal awareness of COVID symptoms for your children. Visit our website or contact your child’s school principal directly if you would like more information about our health and safety procedures. I realize that these are difficult times, but I assure you that the OESJ CSD is fully committed to providing a safe learning environment for all of its students and staff.
