Sixth Grade Attends Conservation Day

OESJ sixth graders attended the annual Conservation Day held at Herkimer KOA Campgrounds.  Students walked to different stations and learned about human-environment interactions, ecology, and had hands on experience letting trout go in the West Canada Creek.  One of the highlights was a bee presentation by Mrs. Murcray’s dad, Mr. Jeff Rutkowski.  Mr. Rutkowski is a beekeeper and loved sharing his knowledge.  Students enjoyed learning that the female bees kick the male bees out of the hive when they are no longer physically able to do the work needed to keep the bee hive going!
