National FFA week was February 18th-25th and as usual, the OESJ CSD was on winter break for most of that week. That did not stop Mohawk Valley FFA members from having multiple events that week to celebrate National FFA Week. On Tuesday, February 21st the Mohawk Valley FFA had two events to celebrate. The first event was at the Tractor Supply Company in Herkimer. At this event, we were not only promoting Tractor Supply’s campaign to support FFA but also to educate the community members on our vertical hydroponic system. Last year the Mohawk Valley FFA won a Tractor Supply Grant for Growing which allowed us to purchase the vertical hydroponic system. The FFA members decided to bring the vertical grow system to the store and educate the shoppers on how crops can grow in a vertical system with no water. After the Tractor Supply event, the FFA members headed to the Village of Saint Johnsville Board Meeting. At the Board Meeting, the members of the Board thanked the FFA members for being leaders in our community and then signed and presented a proclamation declaring the week of February 18th to 25th FFA Week in Saint Johnsville. FFA week did not end there for the Mohawk Valley FFA. The following week they members ran a coloring contest in the elementary school. The participation in the contest was great with over half of the school participating! FFA members chose one member from each grade as a winner. From those selected, there were three overall winners chosen. The winners from each grade received a free make your own sundae from Stewarts and the overall winners received the sundae as well as FFA earbuds. The following is a list of winners: Pre-K: Sophia Barnes, Kindergarten: Blake Lofaro-Cool, First Grade: Lindsey Egan, Second Grade: Case Stowell, Third Grade: Nyha Bonneau, Fourth Grade: Ruby Hand, and Fifth Grade: Lilyanna O’Callaghan. The following students were selected as the top three overall: Lilyanna O’Callaghan, Ruby Hand, and Case Stowell. We would like to thank everyone who participated in the coloring contest and everyone involved in our FFA events this year. Our successes throughout the year could not happen without our supporters.
