Mohawk Valley FFA Members Headed to State Competition

The competition season started on March 4th for the Mohawk Valley FFA as they headed to Hamilton, NY for the District V Leadership Development Competitions. Nine members competed that day in many different competitions. Owen Feagles a seventh-grade member competed in the junior creed speaking contest. Carolyn Littrell a sixth-grade member competed in junior extemporaneous public speaking and placed third and will move on to the substate competition. Our senior high FFA members were extremely busy during the district competitions. For the employment skills competition, Jacob Battisti, Laura Littrell, Madison Dunbar, and Liam Sammons all competed with Jacob, Laura, and Liam moving on to the Substate competition. In the senior extemporaneous public speaking competition Liam Sammons, Laura Littrell, Madison Dunbar, and Zach Tinkler competed with Laura and Liam qualifying for the Substate competition. Finally, the Parliamentary Procedure team consisting of Laura Littrell, Madison Dunbar, Jacob Battisti, Aidan Eggleston, Casey Watson, Madison Dunbar, and Zach Tinkler competed in the Parliamentary procedure competition and placed first qualifying for the substate competition.

    The substate competition was held on March 18th in Carthage, NY. All members that qualified at the district competitions competed at the substate level. At substates Liam Sammons placed third overall in employment skills. The parliamentary procedure team placed second and will move on to the state competition. Carolyn Littrell placed first in the junior extemporaneous speaking contest and will move on to the state contest at the State FFA Convention at SUNY Morrisville. Madison Dunbar and Laura Littrell also interviewed to be selected as part of the slate for the New York District V President which will be voted on at the New York State FFA Convention.

   From here the members that qualified for state convention are working hard preparing for their competition which will be held at the New York State FFA Convention in early May at SUNY Morrisville.
