The OESJ Jr./Sr. high school and community recently hosted 9 exchange students from Spain. Students from Spain came through a program called Global Friendships with a desire to learn more about our culture and what school life is like in the USA. Students were hosted by several families in the community and followed their host students around to various classes during the day. In some of the seventh and eighth grade Spanish classes the Global Friendships chaperone and students told us about soccer, geography, and popular foods in Spain. In addition, students discussed why learning another language (Spanish or English) is important.
Eighth grade students had the opportunity to practice their Spanish with native speakers and also have fun playing games like Simon dice (Simon says) and Piccionario (Pictionary) to practice learning new animal and body parts vocabulary.
