7th Grade Girls Attend Girls STEM Conference

On Tuesday, May 23, Mrs. Sitterly and Ms. Dopp took 15 seventh grade girls to the Future Women of STEM Conference. This all day event  was aimed to encourage young people to consider a future career in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  The conference took place at the Fulton Montgomery Community College campus in Johnstown.  After a yummy breakfast, girls moved onto 3 workshops given by local professors and professionals.  These were interactive presentations like a Lego building challenge, DNA workshop, CSI Crime Scene Investigation, Personal Training, the chemistry of Lip Gloss, the Anatomy of Organ Systems, and the yummy Food Science-cup cake decorating! After lunch, the girls listened to the speaker Flor Trespalacios, an Anatomy and Physiology Professor, give an inspiring lecture on what it takes to be successful in anything you do. She highlighted to find something you are passionate about, stay well read, and stay current as interwoven pieces into her personal journey.  It was a great day to be on campus, learn about STEM, and make new friends!
