As a result of their recent win at the substate level, Mohawk Valley FFA members have earned the chance to compete at the state FFA Convention this May.
Seven members of the Mohawk Valley FFA chapter at Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville High School traveled to the Vernon-Verona-Sherill Central School District in Vernon Saturday, March 21 to compete in the New York State FFA Central Region Substate Career Development Events.
Students qualified to compete at the substate level by placing in the top seven at the district level competition in the beginning of March.
OESJ students who participated included Laiken Whittredge, who competed in the Job Interview event, Casey Watson, who competed in the People in Agriculture event, and Jeff Baker, Aidan Eggleston, Ayrn Feagles, Liam Sammons, Laiken Whittredge, and Zach Tinkler, who competed as a team in the Parliamentary Procedure event. Kait Isaac also attended as part of her duties as NYS FFA State Reporter, announcing event results.
The Parliamentary Procedure team placed first on Saturday, qualifying to compete against five other teams at the state level at the state FFA Convention May 14 to 16 in Morrisville. The Parliamentary Procedure competition required students to individually take a test comprised of 25 multiple choice questions and five research questions. After the test the students went go on to conduct a formal meeting in 10 minutes focused on a given motion, and then compiled a complete set of meeting minutes.
