The Mohawk Valley FFA attended the 87th National FFA Convention. Seven Mohawk Valley FFA Members boarded a bus on the morning of October 25th with 90 other NY FFA members from different chapters around New York State ready for their eight day trip. On the way to Louisville, Kentucky where the convention was hosted the group stopped at many educational tours. Students toured the University of Notre Dame, Willis Tower Skydeck in Chicago, the Chicago Museum of Science and Technology, and Fair Oaks Farm where they have 30,000 cows milking and produce 80,000 pigs a year, the group spent 4 days attending the convention. Four Mohawk Valley FFA members competed in the Meat Evaluation and Technology career development event where they took a Bronze Emblem. At the convention members had many opportunities available. Students could attend sessions where they could hear keynote addresses from influential people like Nick Vujicic a motivational speaker and Donnie Smith the CEO of Tyson Foods, hear the retiring addresses from the six retiring National FFA Officers, National FFA talent, and much more! When students were not in session they had the opportunity to explore the career show where there were hundreds of colleges, corporate, and career oriented booths. Students could also attend many educational workshops throughout the day that explored topics like diversity, leadership, growth, career success, advocating, and hunger. At the last convention session six newly elected National FFA Officers were installing into office. This year the National FFA Organization has reached many records. The National Charter has 610,240 members and the 87th National FFA Convention had a record attendance of 64,409 members and guests. There was another Mohawk Valley FFA member present at convention representing New York State as Reporter. At convention Kait Isaac, the NY FFA Reporter helped to represent the New York State FFA Association by sitting on committees and taking part in the State's Delegate process.
