OESJ committees to begin monthly meetings
Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Board of Education committees will begin holding monthly, public meetings as part of a restructuring of the board’s monthly meeting schedule. 

The board has five standing committees – Buildings and Grounds, Curriculum and Instruction, Finance, Personnel and Policy.

According to Interim Superintendent Thomas Gallagher, the committees will soon establish regular, monthly meeting dates, and those committee sessions will replace one of the two full board meetings the board now holds each month. 

“By holding a series of focused committee meetings and one full board meeting each month, we’ll be able to accomplish more than we could by just holding two board meetings,” Gallagher said. “We’ll be more efficient, and at the same time be able to give matters the attention they require.”

Standing committees, which include two board members each, will focus on issues related to their charge and make recommendations that will be forwarded to the full board for action.  

Committee meetings will be advertised and open to the public just as full board meetings are. Public comment will be accepted at the full board sessions.

Two committees, the Policy and Buildings and Grounds, have already held meetings. A schedule of future committee meetings is in development and will be released to the public once it’s available. 

The committee/full board meeting schedule is expected to be in place for March.
