OESJ board appoints Oppenheim campus principal
The Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Central School District Board of Education Monday, Aug. 19 appointed Jeanine M. Kawryga as principal of the O-E Elementary School and OESJ Middle School.

Mrs. Kawryga was appointed principal of the pre-K-8 Oppenheim campus following the resignation announcement earlier this month of current Principal Brett Barr. Barr will be leaving the district to take an elementary principal’s position in the Cobleskill-Richmondville district. Barr spent 10 years as a business teacher in Cobleskill-Richmondville before coming to O-E last year.

Mrs. Kawryga comes to OESJ from the Greater Amsterdam School District where she has been the coordinator of 6-12 special education since 2009. She has also been a special education administrator in the Troy and Mohawk school districts and taught general and special education for 12 years in the Ilion and Syracuse school districts.

Mrs. Kawryga earned an associate’s degree from Herkimer County Community College and a bachelor’s in business administration from Columbia College. She obtained her master’s degree in special education from LeMoyne College and her school district administration certification from the State University of New York at Cortland.

Before beginning her career in education, Mrs. Kawryga spent 14 years in the business field working for U.S. Air and B.A. Finance America Corp.

“Mrs. Kawryga’s wide range of experience, as an administrator, classroom teacher and in the private sector, made her an ideal candidate to round out the new OESJ administrative team,” OESJ Superintendent Laura Lawrence said. “Her special education experience and her training as an APPR evaluator will greatly benefit the O-E campus and the district.

Mrs. Kawryga lives in Dolgeville.
