OESJ Elementary Adds Enrichment Opportunity to Beyond the Bell

A new enrichment opportunity has been added to the Beyond the Bell after school program! Hosted by Miss LaQuay and Miss VanValkenburgh, students in 3rd and 4th grade meet on Tuesdays, while 5th and 6th graders meet on Thursdays. A month underway and the students have already been working hard creatively thinking and building. Some of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) inspired activities the groups have completed thus far include: researching and building a replica of a landmark of their choice; using coding to choreograph actions for a sprite (digital figure) and building a robot!! Students in 3rd and 4th grade had the opportunity to build the mBOT robot, while the 5th and 6th graders built the mBOT Ranger robot. Both groups worked collaboratively with a partner or in groups of three to successfully assemble their robots in one night! In the upcoming month, the students will be provided with different tasks or challenges to complete using their knowledge of coding and the robots that they built. Funding for this enrichment experience was provided by the Capek Family Foundation.
